Working with the government and partners, UNICEF Burkina Faso joined the rest of the world on 19 November 2024 to mark the “World Toilet Day”.

Marking the day with interventions carried out through its Dori Field Office in the Sahel Region was very apt and well suited to the theme of this year: “Sanitation for peace”.

About 3400 people, including 1405 boys and men and 1995 girls and women, and among them persons with disabilities, were reached with awareness-raising activities such as theatre and forum discussions. Some pictures from the event are shared below.

As the context in Burkina Faso remains fragile with direct attacks on WASH infrastructures, the UNICEF-supported WASH programme utilizes the Humanitarian-Development-Peace nexus approach, that seeks to provide durable solutions in humanitarian response as well as contribute to social and vertical cohesion.

Communication messages are positive and target internally displaced persons and host communities, integrating dynamic Infrastructure management, hygiene promotion, climate effects awareness and promoting peace.
