On April 15, a special screening of a documentary film dedicated to the role of inclusion in the lives of children and adolescents took place at the Belarus cinema in Minsk. The event aimed to raise public awareness of inclusive education, challenge existing stereotypes, and promote a deeper understanding of the importance of equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their individual abilities. Organized by UNICEF in Belarus in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the screening was part of a project funded by the Government of the Russian Federation.

Symbolically, the event was held in April, the month dedicated to raising awareness about autism. The theme of the screening expanded this focus, helping to transform April into a broader month of awareness for all children with special educational needs.

Every child has unique abilities and needs. Inclusive education is built on an approach that seeks to adapt the learning environment to the specific educational requirements and capabilities of each student, including children with disabilities and those with psycho-physical development challenges.

"Creating an educational environment that fully addresses the needs and potential of all learners, fostering an inclusive culture among educational communities, enhancing the professional competencies of educators working in inclusive settings, and strengthening partnerships among educational institutions, families, government bodies, civil society organizations, and the media are critical elements for successfully advancing the principle of inclusion in education.

Ensuring comprehensive protection, support, and guaranteed equal access to quality education for all children and young people—based on their needs, abilities, and aspirations—is the primary goal of promoting inclusive approaches in the education system," said Alexander Vladimirovich Kadlubai, Deputy Minister of Education.

The event demonstrated the "inclusive journey" of children, which begins in kindergarten, continues in school, college, or university, and shapes their professional future.

The documentary film presents real stories of children with disabilities, their parents, educators, and specialists who work every day to create an adaptive educational environment in kindergartens, schools, and higher education institutions.

"Over the past two years, within the framework of a joint project with the Ministry of Education, UNICEF has been supporting schools and kindergartens in implementing inclusive learning practices, developing tools for educators, and conducting an awareness campaign to change public attitudes towards children with disabilities.
As a result, we are witnessing confident steps towards achieving quality inclusive education for all children.
The film that you will see today shows real-life stories of children with disabilities who are growing up in kindergartens and studying in general education schools and higher education institutions across the country.
These are also the stories of parents and teachers — people who make daily choices in favor of the best interests of children.

The stories of these children are proof that joint efforts can lead to significant changes in the lives of each individual child," said Rustam Haydarov, UNICEF Representative in Belarus.

As part of the event, a photo exhibition titled "Inclusion: Education for Calling" was presented, focusing on children with disabilities, their hobbies, and professional aspirations. After the film screening, a thematic panel discussion took place.

The photo exhibition tells the stories of schoolchildren with disabilities from various cities in Belarus who study in an inclusive environment. They develop their abilities and share their dreams about future professions. It is a true gallery of hopes, where each portrait reflects the strength of character, passions, and belief in their dreams that knows no boundaries.

After the screening, a panel discussion was held with participation from representatives of the education, labor, and social protection sectors, as well as parent communities. The aim of the discussion was to explore the educational and professional opportunities available to children after finishing school.

The event was implemented as part of the information and awareness-raising campaign "Just Children in School," conducted by the Ministry of Education of Belarus and UNICEF in Belarus, with financial support from the Government of the Russian Federation.
