Highlights

An Individual Learning Plan (IEP) is a customized document designed to meet the specific needs, strengths, and interests of each student, aligned with state educational standards and programmes. It serves as the cornerstone for structuring the education of students with special educational needs.

The IEP is developed by a team of educational and psychological support professionals, including the student’s teachers, teacher assistants, support service specialists, the student, and their parent or caregiver.

IEPs are crucial for students with special educational needs who require tailored conditions to be fully integrated into the educational environment, actively engage, and achieve progress. The IEP functions as a personalized guide, helping these students navigate their educational experience smoothly and with minimal barriers.

The IEP fosters collaboration among teachers and support specialists, enabling them to identify challenges, establish goals, outline clear steps, and achieve targeted outcomes.

This guide is intended to support teachers, teacher assistants, educational and psychological service providers, and parents/caregivers. It promotes productive discussions about the student’s needs, encourages innovative strategies to address those needs, and ensures the IEP development process is organized, cohesive, and results in a document that is actively put into practice.
