Local Conference of Youth (LCOY)
On September 6–7, 2025, the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) 2025 — the largest and most prominent youth climate conference held within the official youth constituency of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), YOUNGO — will take place in Yerevan in partnership with UNICEF Armenia and the American University of Armenia (AUA) Acopian Center for the Environment.
The event aims to bring together motivated young leaders aged 16–24 from all regions of Armenia to formulate their positions on the climate crisis and present them to government bodies, civil society, and international partners.
Over the course of two days, participants will engage in interactive workshops, expert and policy discussions, as well as practical sessions on shaping climate policy. The main outcome of the conference will be the National Youth Statement, which will be included in the COP30 Global Youth Statement and voiced on international platforms.
Participation is free of charge, however, deadline for application was 1 September 2025.
Through this application process, selected participants will not only present the issues and proposals from their communities but will also become part of the youth movement shaping Armenia’s climate future.
The language of the conference will be Armenian and English, with simultaneous translation.
Frequently asked questions
What is LCOY?
Every year, the UNFCCC organizes the Conference of Parties, better known as COP. As a pre-cursor to COP, YOUNGO organizes the Conference of Youth (COY), a global event where the demands of young people are consolidated into the Global Youth Statement (GYS), which is presented at COP.
Before the COY, Local COYs are held on a national level in over 70 countries. LCOYs serve as an opportunity for young activists to network, capacity build, discuss the climate reality of their areas, and draft the National Youth Statement on Climate, which feeds into the Global Youth Statement.
Young people, especially those from marginalized and underrepresented communities, deserve more opportunities to influence climate policy and shape our future. LCOY Armenia ensures young people are empowered and their voices are represented in decision making surrounding climate policy in Armenia. The Conference also seeks to reduce fragmentation and increase coordination across the country by bringing together youth representatives from all marzes.
Participants will hear from representatives of the Armenian Government, civil society and academia at the forefront of climate change advocacy and environmental science. The programme will include panel discussions, workshops, networking opportunities and group-work focusing on drafting the National Youth Statement that is representative of the needs of adolescents and young people across the country.
Deadline for submission was 1 September 2025. Selected participants will be contacted on 2-3 September 2025.
