Situation analysis of children and women in Afghanistan

Highlights
Since the last update of the Situation Analysis in 2014, we have seen significant progress across many areas, but the situation of children and women remains challenging. The continued insecurity, compounded by drought, a poor harvest, internal displacement and the COVID-19 pandemic continues to exacerbate the already adverse situation for Afghan children and their families.
The 2021 Situation Analysis takes stock of Afghanistan’s achievements in protecting and promoting children’s rights. The Situation Analysis uses human rights and equity frameworks to analyse the current situation of the fulfilment of the rights of children and women in the country and articulates the progress made towards achieving the rights related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets on child poverty, child health, education, access to water and sanitation, and those related to protection from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Guided by the SDGs, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and International Human Rights conventions, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, covers a period from 2015 to mid-2021.
