Aiming to raise the voices of adolescents and youth and strengthen opportunities for them to influence policymaking that affects them
UNICEF Thailand uses the Adolescent Kit across a range of programme entry points with the aim to raise the voices of adolescents and youth ages group 10-25 and strengthen opportunities for them to influence policymaking that affects them. UNICEF and its partners use the Adolescent Kit to reach a wide range of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in Thailand, including ethno-linguistic minorities and youth in the criminal justice system, helping them to succeed in the formal education system and participate fully in Thai society. The Kit is also used in programming for refugees, migrants and other adolescents and youth from Myanmar living in Thailand, to support their fair and equitable access to tertiary-level educational opportunities.
The Adolescent Kit programme in Thailand was first piloted in 2021 using COVID-adapted activities and approaches, but has since transitioned to a hybrid approach, using resources and approaches from the original Kit while still applying a range of COVID-adapted resources to reach adolescents via social media and other methods. The Adolescent Kit is now integrated into youth development programming throughout the country, including programmes with a focus on skills building, empowerment, protection, psychosocial support, child participation, education and social inclusion. Some partners carry out stand-alone programmes using only the Adolescent Kit and others carry out integrated programmes using the Kit and other resources.
In 2022, UNICEF Thailand in collaboration with the Department of Mental Health and World Vision has developed a new adapted Adolescent Kit package for use with adolescents in high-risk schools in seven provinces along the Thailand-Cambodia border. The package, which includes Adolescent Kit activities and approaches along wit other mental health promotion content, sport and recreational activities, will be implemented as part of a stress-relief package to support young people affected by recent conflict and tensions in that region. In the 2026, UNICEF Thailand plans to partner with World Vision to implement the Adolescent Kit through community-based Child-Friendly Spaces, and is also exploring the possibility of integrating the locally-adapted Adolescent Kit package into emergency planning in collaboration with government partners.
