While it is critical for the world to focus on emissions reduction, today’s children require urgent adaptation
interventions. The best investments in children now are to ensure the services they need to survive, grow and thrive enable families to be resilient to climate and environmental shocks; and to support them with the education and skills they will need to adapt and create a green transition and better world.
The climate crisis disproportionately impacts children. Every child is exposed to at least one climate and/or environmental hazard, such as flooding, drought, heatwaves, cyclones, and air and water pollution, yet are the least responsible. Zimbabwe’s 6.5 million children are at risk of impact from climate-induced or climate-exacerbated emergencies. Deforestation, among other human activities, impacts livelihoods in many ways
including water safety and security, increasing Zimbabwe’s vulnerability to change.
