Sana’a/Aden, Yemen – 07 December 2024 – UNICEF Yemen and its partners are launching the 19th payment cycle of the Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) project. Starting 11 December 2024 in the fixed payment sites, over 1.43 million vulnerable families will receive cash assistance to help meet their basic needs.
Since its inception in 2017, the UCT project has been critical financial support to nearly 9 million people, acting as a lifeline amidst Yemen’s ongoing humanitarian crisis. The program’s achievements are a testament to the unwavering commitment of donors, partners, and stakeholders. The 19th payment cycle marks the end of the current UCT program. UNICEF and its partners are currently working on developing new cash-based initiatives to better meet the evolving needs of Yemen's most vulnerable households.
UNICEF Representative to Yemen, Peter Hawkins, emphasized, “The success of the UCT project is the result of joint efforts from international partners and central and local authorities.” He added, “UNICEF remains committed to serve and protect the children in Yemen and continues to work with the authorities on the development of other cash-based programmes that will positively impact the lives of children and their families.”
As this program concludes, UNICEF Yemen reaffirms its dedication to continuing its humanitarian efforts to support children and families in need. UNICEF and its partners remain committed to advancing innovative, sustainable solutions to build a brighter and more equitable future for Yemen’s most vulnerable communities.
