We all know that education is important but perhaps we forget just how often we use the basic education we received as children. This video, central to UNICEF Yemen’s awareness campaign, shows a few of the daily life activities we use our basic education for: whether it’s following a TikTok dance trend, baking a cake, putting up a shelf, or following a map. The message: having a basic education grants you the agency to make choices in your life, and all children deserve the opportunity to access their full potential.
UNICEF Yemen and the EU are collaborating to tackle the Learning Crisis by bringing quality education to 55,000 Yemeni children.
In our daily lives, having a basic education helps us access the world around us. But the basics are often something we take for granted.
Amidst the global learning crisis, we want to ensure that Yemeni children have access to the opportunities and agency that education brings us all. Children are Yemen’s future, and quality education will help make that future a brighter one.
UNICEF Yemen’s Education In Emergencies (EiE) programme is designed to provide young children affected by the conflict with quality education. That means creating safe learning spaces, training teachers and social workers, providing psychosocial support, and taking measures to resolve gender-based issues within the community. The protracted conflict in Yemen has worsened the Learning Crisis, but programmes such as EiE aim to protect the most at-risk children, helping them to access basic education, as well as showing them, and the world, that they are worth fighting for.
How do you discover what you love to do, or nurture a talent? A basic education is essential at every step of your learning journey.
Step by step we build our lives through new skills and passions. We all have to start somewhere, and that first step is a basic education.
How do you challenge yourself and gain new skills without a basic education?Education is the opportunity to grow into the person you want to be.
Every day life is full of tiny moments where having a basic education is essential. Reading is an access point to the world; let’s make sure all children have that access.
