The right to equality is contemplated in article 2 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which says the following:
Article 2
1. The States Parties shall respect the rights set forth in this Convention and shall ensure its application to each child subject to their jurisdiction, without distinction of any kind, regardless of race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinions. nature, national, ethnic, or social origin, economic position, physical handicaps, birth, or any other condition of the child, their parents, or their legal representatives.
2. States Parties shall take all appropriate measures to ensure that the child is protected against all forms of discrimination or punishment on the basis of the status, activities, expressed opinions, or beliefs of his or her parents, guardians, or family members.
