At the Child Friendly Spaces (CFSs) which have been set up at the Kiryandongo refugee settlement reception centre to rehabilitate and offer psychosocial support to children affected by the Sudan war. The spaces, which have been set up with support from United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Uganda, are managed by Lutheran World Foundation (LWF) on behalf of UNHCR .

Highlights

 Highlights

  1. On 2 August 2024, the Uganda Ministry of Health (MoH) confirmed an mpox outbreak. As of December 29, 2024, the cumulative confirmed cases were 1,126, with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.5 percent.
  2. At the end of Dec 2024, the registered refugee and asylum seeker population registered in Uganda was 1,796,609. Women and children represented 79 per cent of the refugees and asylum seekers.
  3. In 2024 a total of 413,756 individuals, (including 35 per cent children), have been affected by hydro-meteorological hazards in 31 districts across Uganda.
  4. As of end of December, UNICEF and partners provided 83,526 children affected by crisis with access to formal and non-formal education, including early learning and over 58,900 women, girls, and boys, with access to gender-based violence risk mitigation, prevention, and/or response interventions.
  5. In 2024, over 33,200 children 6-59 months with severe wasting affected by humanitarian crisis were admitted for treatment.
  6. 152,155 children had been vaccinated against measles, supplemental dose and over 123,000 people had been provided with access to a sufficient quantity and quality of water for drinking and domestic needs.
  7. In responding to the mpox outbreak, UNICEF reached over 7.3 million with mpox messages on prevention and access to services (children, adolescents, parents/caregivers, leaders).
