CHILD HEALTH BOOK
A Guide for Parents
Highlights
Children begin learning from the moment they are born. Much of their capacity for learning develops between birth and age five, as they actively explore the world around them and absorb new knowledge and skills. From their very first days of life, children need to develop socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually in order to thrive at school later on. The birth of a child is a major event in the life of any family. At the same time, a newborn brings with it a wealth of questions related to feeding, development, safety, and health.
This brochure was prepared with the support of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and UNICEF to address the questions that most commonly concern parents and other family members.
We have tried to answer the questions parents ask most frequently about childcare and to offer practical guidance on supporting a child's development from birth to age five. We hope that every mother will be able to breastfeed her child through this most critical period of development, that every father will have the opportunity to engage, nurture, and witness the character and personality of a new person taking shape, and that the whole family will feel proud knowing that each of its members played an active part in supporting their little one from the very first days of life.
