Ashgabat, 18 February 2024 - On the occasion of Diplomatic Workers Day, UNICEF and the Government of Turkmenistan have reconfirmed their strong partnership, commitment to the children and youth of Turkmenistan, by signing ten workplans with eleven State entities. These collaborative agreements mark a significant step towards the implementation of the UNICEF Country Programme Document for Turkmenistan for 2021-2025. The signed workplans include continuation of the ongoing activities and initiating new strategies for realization of child rights in Turkmenistan.
UNICEF and the Government of Turkmenistan through these work plans will continue implementation of the commitments to respect, protect and fulfil the rights of children, as stipulated by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and further reaffirmed in the second National Action Plan on realisation of child rights 2023-2028.
In 2024, UNICEF will continue its focus on ensuring that every child and young person in Turkmenistan has the chance to be able to reach their full potential and equitably enjoy their right to survive, thrive, learn, participate and be protected.
A noteworthy aspect of these workplans is the incorporation of cross-cutting themes, demonstrating the country’s dedication to inclusivity and sustainability. These themes include the commitment to have data on children and families in order to reach most vulnerable and leave no one behind, as well as promote child and youth participation, gender equality, and environmental protection.
UNICEF signed workplans with Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Prosecutor’s Office, Office of the Ombudsperson, State Statistics Committee, Institute of State, Law and Democracy, State Committee for TV and Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography, and Women's Union.
“UNICEF is proud of its long-sanding partnership with the Government of Turkmenistan. Through these workplans, we are committed to achieve tangible and lasting impacts on the lives of children and families across Turkmenistan, paving the way for a brighter and more inclusive future for all.” – said Mohammad Fayyazi, UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan.
