11 October 2022:  UNICEF together with the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan launched the three-day consultations on the development of the new National Action Plan (NAP) on Child Rights for 2023-2028.

Members of the Inter-Ministerial Commission on Ensuring Turkmenistan’s Compliance with International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, which consists of representatives from 22 ministries and state entities, are participating in the consultations and discussing the structure and content of the new Plan. The aim of the consultations is to finalize the goals and objectives of the new National Action Plan.

The new Plan is being prepared on the basis of the national priorities set in the Program of the President of Turkmenistan for the socio-economic development of the country in 2022-2028, and on the key recommendations and best practices drawn from the evaluation of the previous National Action Plan.

“This is the second Plan of Turkmenistan on Child Rights, which demonstrates the highest level of Government dedication to children, and it will expand and deepen cross-sectoral and multi-partner cooperation on child-related Sustainable Development Goals and commitments emerging form the Convention on the Rights of the Child,” says Alexandru Nartea, UNICEF Deputy Representative.

Over the last decades, UNICEF has been partnering with multiple government ministries and agencies as well as many CSOs and public organizations to support child wellbeing in Turkmenistan, and the development and implementation of the new NAP will require an-all-partner effort and contribution.
