Little Green Steps: Climate Adaptation Curriculum for Preschools in Turkmenistan
About
The Curriculum and Methodological Guidelines on Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction for Preschool Institutions is an initiative developed to help preschool teachers in Turkmenistan build climate resilience and sustainable habits in children from an early age. Structured around three age groups (3–4, 4–5, and 5–6 years), the programme uses play-based, child-centered learning to introduce basic concepts such as the greenhouse effect and desertification, while nurturing children's attention to and care for the natural world.
By combining practical activities and simple guided discussions, the curriculum equips educators with everything needed to run engaging, age-appropriate lessons—without requiring theoretical explanations or complex scientific instruction. Through hands-on, sensory engagement with nature, children develop the habits of a sustainable lifestyle, including water conservation, resource-saving, and waste reduction, laying the foundation for lifelong environmental awareness and adaptation skills.
