Highlights
The end of the 14-year conflict in Syria in December 2024 brought relief and renewed hope. For millions of Syrians, it marked the possibility of return, rebuilding and reclaiming everyday life.
But for children, the danger did not end with the war. Today, around 5 million children live in areas contaminated with landmines and explosive remnants of war.
Syria’s land remains dangerously contaminated, and the very movements that peace has made possible, returning home, walking to school, playing outdoors, are now placing children at risk in the very places meant to be safe.
This report explores the scale of the threat, its lasting impact on children, and UNICEF’s response to protect them.
