Damascus, 19 November 2025 – UNICEF is pleased to announce the appointment of renowned actor and humanitarian Qays Sheikh Najib as the first-ever Ambassador for UNICEF in Syria. His appointment comes on the eve of World Children’s Day, celebrated this year under the theme “My Day, My Rights,” a call to uphold every child’s right to a safe, healthy, and empowered childhood.
In his new role, Qays will work alongside UNICEF to raise awareness of the challenges facing children in Syria and to advocate for their rights to education, health care, protection, and participation. With a wide-reaching platform and a longstanding commitment to social causes, he will use his voice to amplify the experiences and aspirations of children across the country.
“We are proud to welcome Qays Sheikh Najib as our first Ambassador in Syria,” said Zeinab Adam, Deputy Representative, UNICEF in Syria. “His deep connection to his homeland and unwavering belief in the power of storytelling to inspire change make him an ideal advocate for Syria’s children. His appointment sends a powerful message: that every child in Syria deserves a better future.”
Qays has been a vocal supporter of humanitarian efforts over the years, using his influence to spotlight issues affecting children and families in the region. As a father and public figure, he brings both personal conviction and public reach to his advocacy.
“My appointment comes at a very special moment, one day ahead of World Children’s Day,” said Qays Sheikh Najib. “It is not merely a title; it is a sacred trust, a moral imperative, and a call to action that I embrace.”
World Children’s Day, marked each year on 20 November, is a global moment to celebrate children and promote their rights. This year’s theme, “My Day, My Rights,” underscores the importance of ensuring that children are not only protected but also empowered to shape their own futures.
