Belgrade, 23 July 2025 – UNICEF and the Basketball Federation of Serbia (KSS) today launched a strategic partnership, ahead of the upcoming European U18 Basketball Championship, aimed at promoting respect for and protection of children’s rights through sport, while creating a safe and supportive environment for their growth and development.
The partnership is part of UNICEF’s Programme for Serbia until 2030 focusing on early childhood development, violence prevention, and building skills for the future.
“We are very pleased to sign this agreement with the Basketball Federation of Serbia, especially today, on the eve of the European U18 Championship. UNICEF has had a strong collaboration with KSS in the past, but this agreement elevates our partnership to a strategic level,” said Deyana Kostadinova, UNICEF Representative in Serbia.
A portion of ticket sales from the European Championship will support UNICEF programmes for children in Serbia, while another portion will be directed to the Special Olympics.
President of the Basketball Federation of Serbia, Dr Nebojša Čović, emphasized the importance of this collaboration with UNICEF and the Special Olympics: “It is a great honour for us to be actively involved in campaigns that contribute to society. This event has effectively enabled us to mobilize our resources more significantly, together with our partners,” said Čović.
