Belgrade, 2 October 2025 – Today, UNICEF and GRUNDFOS established a partnership to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on children, young people and the most vulnerable population in one municipality in Vojvodina. The project worth RSD 5,530,000 will be implemented by the end of 2026.
Serbia is facing the accelerating impacts of climate change, with warming rates exceeding the global average and an increased risk of extreme precipitation. Vulnerable communities’ access to safe drinking water is particularly at risk, which requires urgent measures to increase the resilience of the water supply infrastructure in both urban and rural areas.
“The partnership with UNICEF Serbia represents more than just a project for us – we have a shared mission to ensure safe water and hygiene for every child, even in the conditions of climate challenges. Through this 18-month programme, we are not only investing in sustainable WASH practices but also giving our employees the opportunity to contribute directly to the community through volunteering. This initiative perfectly reflects our commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 6 and 13, and to the values that Grundfos lives by every day”, said Veljko Todorović, General Manager of Grundfos in Serbia.
The partnership will bring together climate change experts and young people to prepare an analysis of local policies in the selected municipality and their capacity to identify the impacts of climate change on children and the local population. In the second phase of the project, during the summer of 2026, mapping of public drinking water fountain availability during periods of drought and heat waves will be conducted.
“Young people in Serbia want to be part of the solution when it comes to climate change. This partnership will enable them to be involved in the project from the very beginning, learn from experts and take part in a public awareness-raising campaign about what we can do to preserve the planet for future generations. We are grateful to Grundfos for recognizing UNICEF as a partner and hope to expand this cooperation to other municipalities”, said Deyana Kostadinova, UNICEF Representative in Serbia.
Since 1945, Grundfos has been continuously improving the energy efficiency of its products and production processes, relying on innovation. In its new five-year work plan for Serbia (2026-2030), UNICEF has recognized the private sector as an important partner whose expertise, resources and influence can contribute to achieving faster results for children and young people.
The partnership is focused on integrating climate-resilient practices into local and national policies, engaging young people, cooperating with local self-governments and youth organizations, as well as involving Grundfos employees in volunteering activities within the project.
