Velika Plana, Serbia, 19 June 2018 – As of today, children, young people and adults with disability from day care centre “Lane” in Velika Plana have a new boules court.
The court has been opened within the „Sport for All“ project, implemented by the Association of persons with cerebral and child paralysis „The Will for Life" of Velika Plana and UNICEF, with the support of Vojvođanska Bank.
The boules curt is equipped, adapted and fully functional for regular sports and recreational activities, as well as for sports competitions which will be held during the summer.
Within the project, 50 trainers will be tutored to work with children and young people with disabilities and all other children interested in this Paralympic discipline.
Besides chess, boules is the only sport accessible to everyone, including people with more severe physical disabilities.
Thus, through the boules and inclusive sport activities, the project will contribute to an increase in the participation of children with disabilities and decrease of prejudices that exclude these children from social life in their local community.
Children with disability in Serbia are among the most marginalized and most vulnerable members of the society.
They are faced with constant discrimination, have less chances to realize their right to health protection and education, and more chances to experience violence, exploitation and abuse than their peers without disability.
UNICEF promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child, in everything we do. Together with our partners, we work in 190 countries and territories to translate that commitment into practical action, focusing special effort on reaching the most vulnerable and excluded children, to the benefit of all children, everywhere.
