Belgrade, 24 November 2023 – Aleksandar Sasa Djordjevic, Serbia’s celebrated basketball player and coach, renewed his collaboration contract with UNICEF in Serbia, continuing his role as the national ambassador.

Sasa Djordjevic has been serving as the National Ambassador for UNICEF Serbia since 2005. Throughout the years, he has supported the promotion of children's rights in the country, particularly in the areas of education, sport for development, emergency assistance, and the advocacy of responsible business practices and the impact of the business sector on children. Recognizing the dangers of peer violence, especially in digital media and on social networks, which is increasingly prevalent among children and youth, his work is specifically directed towards supporting UNICEF programmes focused on child protection and the prevention of violence against and among children and youth.

“To be a UNICEF ambassador is one of the greatest honours I have achieved. I believe that as adults, we bear a great responsibility. We must engage more with children, understand them better, and send them the right messages. It is important to set a personal example, be role models for children, show them how to be supportive and tolerant, and instil principles of fair play and non-discrimination. I also want to take this opportunity to thank all donors and members of the Friends of UNICEF Club, which consists of 45,000 citizens and around 280 companies. It is a community of people investing in programs for children, and I am confident that by caring for children in a quality way and providing them with good care, upbringing, and education, we are creating the future of a stronger society,” stated Aleksandar Sasa Djordjevic, UNICEF Serbia’s National Ambassador.

He emphasized that all children have the right to live without violence.

“Violence harms their physical and mental development. Violence hinders every society. I am confident that violence against and among children can be prevented and completely eradicated. But we all must be together in this. Only united can we make changes for every child!”  said Sasa Djordjevic.

During the signing of the collaboration extension contract, Deyana Kostadinova, UNICEF Representative in Serbia, expressed gratitude to Sasa for his nearly two-decade-long collaboration and support.

“Sasa Djordjevic has for many years shown a true commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of children and adolescents, as well as to the work of UNICEF in Serbia, which is aimed at building a country fit for every child. His advocacy and fundraising activities have inspired other people - individuals and companies - to help UNICEF implement its programmes for children in the country,” said Deyana Kostadinova, UNICEF Representative in Serbia.
