Climate change, energy poverty and environmental degradation are equity issues, with children and young people often being the most vulnerable and affected. Addressing these challenges is therefore vital for building a more sustainable future for children.

In Romania, UNICEF collaborates with a wide range of partners, from government institutions, the Romanian Presidency, the Parliament, and local authorities to civil society, the private sector, and the media, to promote children's rights and ensure access to essential services such as education, health, and social protection. As climate change, energy access, and environmental degradation increasingly impact children's well-being, these challenges have become central to UNICEF’s equity and sustainability agenda. Recognizing their cross-sectoral effects, particularly in health, education, and child protection, UNICEF in Romania has commissioned a Climate Landscape Analysis for Children. This report aims to guide the Country Office in integrating climate, energy, and environmental priorities into its 2023–2027 Country Programme, offering strategic recommendations to better safeguard children in the face of a changing climate and empower them to become climate champions.
