One in five Romanian citizens is a child, just as one in five Europeans is a child. But European studies show we have much to improve in hearing the voice of children, especially of the most vulnerable.

With this purpose was created the Romanian Children's Board, supported by UNICEF. The Children's Board is an informal group led entirely by children to to promote child participation in decision-making that affects them, give them a voice publicly, and encourage diversity.

The first meeting of the new Children's Board was held for the first time on 7th of August, to welcome the new members and to start the planning for this year.

Meet now all the incredible members of the Children's Board!

Adelina, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board because I have always felt that we children have valuable ideas, but we are not listened to enough. I want to help every child feel safe, understood and supported, especially in their school and community."

Adelina, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"My dream is that this initiative will take root in all communities in big cities and especially in forgotten villages, so that every child, no matter where they live, has the chance to be heard, to express themselves freely and to build their future with dignity."

Anamaria, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I applied to the Children's Board because I wanted to contribute to making a change for us children, to be listened to when we express our opinions and understood when we feel overwhelmed. I want to encourage children who don't have the power to speak up about how they feel."

Andreea
UNICEF

"I applied to the Children's Board because I want to be civically involved and make a difference. Nothing about children should be done without children, therefore I look forward to starting my journey of representation with much hope and love. Children need to know their rights and responsibilities as this is the first step towards a more equitable society."

Andrei, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I want to make a significant contribution, not only by fighting for violated rights, but also by listening to the voice of the children around me. Appreciation, safety and listening are essential, and the lack of them creates problems, such as ignoring our opinions or the careless attitude of teachers in schools."

Aris, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board to make every child's voice heard. As a member of the Children's Board the change I want to make is to ensure the health and education of every child and a safe, danger-free environment."

Bianca, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board because I believe that every child deserves to be listened to and directly involved in the decisions that affect their lives. I want to contribute to building an environment where children's views are respected and their rights are protected and promoted in a real way, not just in theory."

Catalina
UNICEF

"The Children's Board is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Being a creative and empathetic person, I chose to be part of the Board, because here I can contribute, together with other young people, to solve the problems of a society and thus make change possible."

Denisa, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board because I am passionate about volunteering and I wanted to make my voice and opinion really heard. As a member of the Board, I want to help empathize with children's voices and show that we children also have valuable points of view that deserve to be heard."

Dmytro, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I applied for the Children's Board because I wanted to share ideas from my own experience and help solve important issues facing teenagers. All the members are very friendly and I felt like we already knew each other."

Eric, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I chose to be part of the Children's Board supported by UNICEF because I saw children around me who needed help or had valuable ideas, but didn't know how to make their voices heard. At the same time, I felt it was important to get to know other children from as diverse backgrounds as possible, so that together we can make children's voices heard and better promote awareness of children's rights."

Eric-Andrei, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I chose to be part of the Children's Board because, in the area where I come from, Teleorman, the voice of children is not heard by decision makers, neither at county nor national level. I want to change that and make all children's voices heard. I want to initiate real actions targeting disadvantaged communities."

Eva, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

,,I joined the Children's Board when I was 12 years old, looking for an environment where I could grow while contributing to a change for those around me. Once I became a member, I made it my goal to represent as many children as possible through my work, so that everyone can feel heard through the words I have the opportunity to expose to adults."

Evelin, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board out of a desire to give voice to the needs and aspirations of those my age. I want to contribute to the development of initiatives that promote equity, safety and equal access to education and opportunities so that every child can develop harmoniously in an environment that respects their rights and potential."

Filip, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I chose to be part of the Children's Board supported by UNICEF because I saw children with valuable ideas who didn't know how to make their voices heard and I wanted to give them a common platform. I want decision-makers to take our voices into account in all processes that affect us and ensure equal access to rights for children from diverse backgrounds."

Florentina, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be in the Children's Board to make every child feel that their voice matters. As a member of the Children's Board I want to change the world, to make it a safe and friendly environment for every child."

Ioana, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I chose to get involved in the Children's Board supported by UNICEF in order to contribute to a concrete change in society. Most of all, I want to bring environmental education closer to young people, inspiring them to adopt sustainable behaviors in their daily lives."

Ioana, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board out of a deep conviction that children's voices have the power to transform society. It was important for me to actively contribute to a space where children's opinions, needs and aspirations are not only heard, but respected."

Karina, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board because I believe that our voice should be heard, not just tolerated. As a member of the Board, I want to help create a real framework where young people are involved in decision-making, not just formally consulted. I want our opinions to really count in the policies that affect us."

Karina, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"The main reason why I was enthusiastic from the very beginning to apply and later to be accepted in the Children's Board was to meet children from all over the country with the same interests as me: the desire to raise awareness about the importance of children's rights in Romania. As a member of the Children's Board, I intend to work and contribute as much as I can to ensure children's place at the decision-making tables."

Katrina, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to apply for the Children's Board because I want every child's voice to be heard and considered. I want all children to feel safe in an environment where they can talk about their concerns, such as mental health."

Luca, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board because I know how hard it is, as a child in a village, to be listened to. I want, through my involvement, to help change perceptions of children in small communities and help create policies that give them real, equal opportunities."

Luca, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"As a member of the Board, I aim to contribute to shaping concrete and applicable solutions for equitable access to education, the development of a safe and healthy school climate, and supporting the emotional health of children, regardless of their background or social context."

Matei, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I chose to be part of the Children's Board because I want our voice, young people's voice, to really count. I am passionate about children's participation and climate change, and my dream is that our ideas don't just stay in meetings and plans but reach the real world. I believe in our power to change things one step at a time."

Miruna, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board because I want children's ideas and needs to be heard by decision makers. As a member of the Board, I want to contribute to real change in education and in protecting children's rights so that all children feel safe, respected and encouraged to follow their dreams."

Nicholas, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

Nicoleta, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board because I have seen how children's ideas and needs often remain in the shadows, especially in communities where support is hard to reach. As a member, I want to bring real change by supporting accessible education and an environment where every child feels understood, supported and safe."

Rafaela, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board because I knew that the voices of the most silent need to be heard where decisions are made. I believe in the power of children to change the world and I want to bring more empathy, fairness and real listening into the policies that make up our reality."

Rania, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I think the idea of providing support, to such a vulnerable part of the population and addressing issues that are often pushed deep down, motivated me. I joined the Children's Board because very often children and teenagers come up with the ideas that are most appropriate for more modern times and we are also the ones who will feel the decisions being made today the most."

Rares, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

,,The moment I applied to be a member of the Children's Board was a turning point in my life. I realized that only through direct involvement can I both make a difference for all young people in Romania and be an active representative of all people with disabilities in Romania."

Renata, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to join the Children's Board to help defend children's rights and realize children's desire to be heard by adults. I would very much like to be able to do something so that all children are safe."

Sebastian, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to be part of the Children's Board because I want the real voices and concerns of children to be heard, where the decisions that affect our lives are made. I want to contribute to a profound change in the way we are listened to and involved so that every child is treated with respect, empathy and dignity."

Stefania, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"When I chose to join the Children's Board, I was only 14 years old and I wanted to find a place where my opinion and the opinion of all children who feel unjustly treated could be heard and used for the good of us and the generations to come. I want this to become a real action, to be applied in all children's communities in the biggest cities of the country, but especially in disadvantaged villages, to give them, regardless of the environment in which they grew up, the same chance to express themselves, the same chance to freedom."

Tudor, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I would like to use all the resources that UNICEF has at its disposal to continue to advocate for children from disadvantaged backgrounds in Romania. I hope that someday, there will be a moment when wherever we are in Romania, we can look proudly at what is around us and not turn our heads to protect ourselves from seeing something we don't like to know is happening."

Victor, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"I wanted to join the Children's Board because I was aware that there are children who are born with far fewer opportunities than me and I strongly believe that we can make the world a better place if we all make a small personal contribution. I wish that the change I make as a member is to convince as many adults as possible that children's problems are caused by them, and that their solutions should come faster and more often, also from them, by listening to us and getting involved."

Vlad, member of the Children's Board
UNICEF

"The Children's Board for me is a chance to make a change, a chance for us children to become the voice of the unheard and in great need of help, and that is why I applied for this wonderful team. I want to give children hope, I want them to believe in themselves more than anyone else and to know that they can do great things even in the most difficult situations."
