Why Adolescence Matters
Adolescence is a pivotal stage of transformation when young people build their identities, strengthen skills, and prepare to shape their futures. In Oman, nearly one in three people is under the age of 20, making young people a driving force of national development. Oman Vision 2040 calls for a knowledge-based, innovative economy. Today’s adolescents will be the leaders, innovators, and contributors who turn that vision into reality. Yet many still need stronger access to quality education, digital skills, health services, and meaningful participation opportunities in order to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
UNICEF’s Work in Oman (2026–2030)
UNICEF partners with the Government of Oman to help adolescents realize their full potential and transition successfully from learning to earning. Together, we are strengthening systems, expanding opportunities, and equipping young people with the competencies needed for the 21st century.
- Supporting teacher training to develop creative thinking, problem-solving, and digital literacy.
- Enabling future skills and ensuring young people graduate with skills that meet real labour-market demands.
- Encouraging healthy lifestyles through awareness campaigns on nutrition, physical activity, and emotional well-being.
- Creating platforms for young people, especially girls, to express their views, volunteer, and influence policies.
- Promoting youth engagement in climate action and environmental protection.
