Series of hybrid events hosted by preschool teachers to bring social and emotional learning closer to parents

Social and emotional skills are just as important as cognitive skills and increase a child's ability to learn, work with others, pay attention in the classroom and develop other skills that form the basis for learning and social interaction in school years and later in life.
Preschool teachers work with children daily to develop these skills, but kindergartens are not the only places where social and emotional skills can be learned. Parents, grandparents, and everyone involved in caring for children can stimulate their social and emotional development through daily interaction.
To bring social and emotional learning closer to parents, UNICEF and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, in partnership with the Macedonian Civic Education Centre, initiated a series of fifteen hybrid ‘Sharing and Playing’ events. The events are hosted by preschool teachers, with physical attendance of a limited number of parents and children, and live streamed for a wider audience.
At the events, the teachers share practical tips and strategies that parents can apply with their children, as well as a range of resources that the parents can use at home, including materials developed in partnership with Svetot na Bibi and Think Equal (UK), available on the EDUINO platform.
The programme is financially supported by the British Embassy Skopje, with whom UNICEF and the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy have been jointly working to introduce a comprehensive programme on social and emotional development in all public preschools throughout the country. The programme addresses not just the wellbeing and development of children at preschools, but also their teachers.
