#NetWithoutHate is a movement led by children and adolescents who are standing up for a digital world where everyone feels safe, respected and heard.

Building on the success of the “Cyberbullying Bye-Bye” campaign, UNICEF and the Foundation Telekom for Macedonia have continued their partnership to support young changemakers in taking the lead against cyberbullying and online hate speech.

Sparking the movement

This new chapter began with a creative orientation workshop in Ohrid, where children and adolescents from across the country came together with purpose and passion. Supported by the Scout Association of Macedonia and filled with creativity and courage, they reflected on the realities of digital life, shared personal stories, and the challenges of online safety.

It was the beginning of a movement fueled by children and adolescents, driven by solidarity to create a #NetWithoutHate.

Over several days, these changemakers crafted a collective stand against online hate speech and cyberbullying. What started as conversation soon evolved into a strong call to action. Through open dialogue, group activities, and creative sessions, they shaped powerful messages that radiate empathy, respect, and resilience.

The Mediathon: A Creative Sprint of Co-Creation and Collaboration

From spark to sprint, the momentum continued in Skopje. At a high-energy three-day Mediathon, children and adolescents teamed up with mentors, digital creators, designers, and communication experts to turn their bold ideas into persuasive content.

It was a space of collaboration where through brainstorming, storytelling, and hands-on content creation, they explored how to speak out against online hate and cyberbullying in ways that resonate with their peers. From the first sketch to the final reel, every message, video, and visual was shaped by their experiences, their voices, and their creativity.

Designing Change Together

As the movement continues to grow, the journey shifts from powerful messages to concrete action. From 21–23 October 2025, #NetWithoutHate champions came together in Berovo for a Design Thinking workshop focused on turning ideas into practice.

Through hands-on, collaborative exercises, participants explored how to better understand the needs of their peers and communities, identify key challenges around online safety and hate speech, and co-create meaningful solutions.

This was a space for reflection, creativity, and strategy. Adolescents began developing peer-to-peer initiatives and continue to work on refining and piloting them in their schools and communities.

In the period ahead, they will be presenting and launching their ideas — stay tuned as their initiatives come to life.

Asking the Important Questions

What does it mean to grow up in a digital world with parents who grew up in an analog one? Why does being part of the #NetWithoutHate movement matter to children and young people? And what does an internet without hate look like to them?

During the workshop, adolescents were invited to reflect on these questions and share their thoughts in their own words.

Boys are changing the story: Redefining Strength, Empathy and Respect

Our #NetWithoutHate participants also took part in creating social media content for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, linking online safety, respect, and the prevention of violence.

Their messages highlight how hate speech, cyberbullying, bias, and harmful stereotypes—online or offline—are interconnected, and why challenging them is essential to building safer spaces for everyone.

In this series, boys speak openly about respect, empathy, consent, and emotional expression, showing that strength comes from kindness and equality—not control or violence.

By flipping common stereotypes such as “real men don’t cry” or “real men control what girls post online” into positive messages like “Sensitivity is strength” and “Empathy is strength. Violence is not,” these videos challenge bias and promote healthier, more respectful relationships.
