National budget briefs on social sector spending in Namibia 2017/2018
Putting child-sensitive budgeting on Namibia's national agenda
Highlights
UNICEF Namibia in 2016 developed a set of four Social Sector Budget Briefs as part of a cross-country exercise in Southern Africa to put child-sensitive budgeting on the national agenda.
The 2016 Budget Briefs cover the sectors Child Health and WASH; Social Welfare and Protection; and Education. In addition, a Macro Briefs provides an overview of the macro-economic climate and trends in public finance management in Namibia. The Budget Briefs analyze Namibia’s revenues and expenditures in the sectors that are most relevant to children over the past three years up to the 2016-17 Budget.
The main audience of the Budget Briefs is government officials, members of the Parliament, development partners and civil society representatives engaged in child rights advocacy. The intent is to continuously spark broad public interest and debate around the State Budget and how resources are distributed among as well as within social sectors, in light of a country’s poverty profile and national and international treaty obligations with respect to children.
