Using the life cycle approach in child and adolescent health to prevent maternal, newborn and child deaths
UNICEF Namibia has adopted an integrated life cycle approach to child and adolescent health and development and strives to improve access to high-impact health, nutrition, HIV, sanitation and hygiene services for young children under the age of 5, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and adolescents at risk of HIV infection.
UNICEF uses an equity-focused approach that prioritises the provision of services for the most deprived communities.
The equity-focus approach is an effective strategy to reduce the significant disparities, and ensuring that we reach the most vulnerable and hard to reach communities.
Priorities for children, from before birth to adolescence, vary depending on their age, and are implemented in partnership with the Government of Namibia.
Two key health priorities include
- Saving mother and newborn lives
- Improving adolescent health
