PODGORICA, 18 September 2025 – In response to questions from citizens and the media, UNICEF Montenegro informs the public that the preparatory phase of the internationally recognized Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) on the situation of children and women is currently underway in Montenegro. The survey is being conducted by the Statistical Office of Montenegro with the support of UNICEF.

MICS has been regularly implemented in Montenegro since 1997, and was last conducted in 2018. More information about the survey is available here: https://www.unicef.org/montenegro/en/stories/largest-survey-children-and-families-montenegro-begins

In this preparatory phase, only basic household data is being collected, strictly for statistical purposes, as preparation for the main phase of the survey, which will begin in October 2025. The protection of children and citizens’ privacy is an absolute priority – all data is confidential, processed in line with the highest international and national standards, and used exclusively to improve policies that enhance the lives of children and families.

Enumerators working in the field during this preparatory phase are authorized by the Statistical Office and are required to show both their ID and official authorization. Participation in the survey is voluntary, and the cooperation of citizens is invaluable for obtaining reliable and internationally comparable data on children and families in Montenegro.

UNICEF calls on all citizens who may have doubts, and in order to prevent possible misuse, to contact the Statistical Office directly at 020 230 811 to confirm that the individuals are indeed enumerators for the MICS survey on the situation of children and women in Montenegro.
