Ulaanbaatar, 12 September 2025 — An evening of generosity and solidarity turned into a milestone for child health in Mongolia as the UNICEF Mongolia Fundraising Gala, hosted by National Ambassador for Health and Development Ms. Tselmuun Nyamtaishir, successfully raised funds to strengthen the country’s newborn screening system.

The Gala, held under the theme “For every child, a bright future”, was dedicated to introducing and sustaining the use of Tandem Mass Spectrometry (MS/MS) — a highly advanced diagnostic technology capable of detecting 25–30 metabolic disorders from a single drop of blood. These disorders, if undiagnosed, can lead to irreversible disability or even death in the earliest weeks of life. Early detection means children can receive timely treatment, giving them the chance to grow up healthy and thrive.

Every year, more than 67,000 babies are born in Mongolia, yet thousands remain at risk because advanced screening tools have not been widely available. Over the past three decades, an estimated 900 infants have suffered preventable lifelong complications due to late diagnosis. With the introduction of MS/MS, this cycle can be broken — ensuring that every newborn is given a fair chance at a healthy start.

“Together, we have successfully raised over 2 billion MNT needed to bring to Mongolia, for the very first time, the advanced diagnostic technology known as “Tandem Mass Spectrometry.” This has laid the foundation to diagnose thousands of newborns at an early stage, preventing lifelong health risks and saving their lives” said Ms. Tselmuun Nyamtaishir, UNICEF Mongolia’s Ambassador.

Ms. Tselmuun Nyamtaishir, CEO of MAK and UNICEF Mongolia’s Ambassador, was praised for her leadership and commitment in hosting the Gala. “Your generosity directly contributes to reducing preventable infant mortality and morbidity and helps families avoid the devastating consequences of late diagnosis,” UNICEF Mongolia Representative Evariste Kouassi-Komlan noted.

Guests at the elegant event, held at Ayan Zalaat Hotel, included high-profile leaders, philanthropists, and cultural icons, all united by the vision of creating a healthier future for children. Through live pledges, auctions, and heartfelt appeals, the evening transformed compassion into tangible impact.

This historic step not only equips Mongolia with its first Tandem Mass Spectrometry device but also moves the country closer to its national goals under Vision 2050 and the Sustainable Development Goals — ensuring that no child is left behind when it comes to health and survival.

For every child, this Gala was more than a celebration. It was a promise — a promise of life, health, and hope for generations to come.
