Meningococcal infection is an acute respiratory infection that can become severe in a short time. It has an asymptomatic latent period of 5-7 days, with a minimum of 3 days and a maximum of 10 days, after entering the body of a healthy person.

People of all ages are at risk of contracting this infection, but children aged 0-5 are at higher risk. If you get sick, it can become serious very quickly. If you or your chldren experience the following clinical symptoms, contact a hospital immediately. These symptoms include:

  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Rash on the body
  • Vomiting
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Sensitivity to bright light and noise

If your child experiences these symptoms, you should immediately contact a healthcare provider and start treatment as directed by a doctor.

Since meningococcal infection is a respiratory infection, similar preventive measures can be used as for other respiratory infections. These include:

  • Regularly washing hands and maintaining personal hygiene
  • Ventilating rooms and regularly performing wet cleaning
  • Wearing a mask when going to crowded places
  • Drinking boiled and bottled water
  • Clean your mouth and throat by rinsing it regularly
  • Not sharing cups, plates, and spoons with others
  • Dressing warmly according to the season
  • Eating foods rich in vitamins to improve the body's immunity

Follow these preventive measures to stay safe and healthy.
