“A Book from You – A Whole World for Me” Campaign
Help us complete collections of 100 storybooks in kindergartens across Moldova

In a child’s early years, every story read aloud leaves a lasting impression: a new word learned, a question sparked, an emotion better understood. Story by story, reading nurtures the imagination, curiosity and confidence children need as they begin school.
Reading starts at home and continues in kindergarten. Yet many kindergartens, especially in rural areas and communities with limited resources, still do not have enough books.
Through the “A Book from You – A Whole World for Me” campaign, UNICEF, the Ministry of Education and Research and Cărturești invite you to share the gift of reading with and help create more opportunities to learn, imagine and grow #ForEveryChild.
The campaign builds on the National Interactive Reading Programme “Read Me 100 Stories”, which has already brought books and reading spaces to kindergartens and trained early childhood educators to make interactive reading part of children’s daily routines.
Many children still lack access to books
UNICEF data show that only 31.1% of caregivers regularly read to children under the age of seven, while around 30% of children have fewer than three books at home. For many families, particularly those living in rural areas and low-income communities, buying books is simply not always affordable. This is why book collections in kindergartens are so important: they give children regular access to books and make reading part of their everyday lives.
What “Read Me 100 Stories” Has Made Possible
The “Read Me 100 Stories” Programme has brought books, welcoming reading spaces and dedicated activities for children, educators and parents to kindergartens across the country.
To date, UNICEF has supported the programme by:
- providing 1,200 kindergartens with children’s books;
- setting up reading corners, welcoming spaces where children can read and listen to stories;
- training 5,000 early childhood educators to incorporate reading into their work with children;
- organizing interactive read-aloud sessions and learning activities inspired by stories;
- promoting reading in local communities by engaging parents and public libraries and organizing themed events.
De ce este nevoie de sprijin în continuare
Although the programme now reaches most kindergartens, the resources available are still insufficient to ensure full and equitable access across the country.
Through this campaign, we aim to complete the 100-book collections and expand the range of books available in Russian-medium kindergartens. Donations will help diversify reading resources in approximately 1,400 kindergartens across the country.

What difference will your contribution make?

Children will also be able to borrow the books and read them at home with their families, turning storytime into an opportunity to connect and spend meaningful time together.
Your contribution will support:
- children’s access to books and reading, both in kindergarten and at home;
- equitable learning opportunities, including for children living in communities with limited resources;
- the development of vocabulary, imagination, empathy and confidence through age-appropriate stories;
- reading and language development activities led by early childhood educators;
- reading at home and stronger bonds between children and their parents;
- a national early childhood education programme with a lasting impact on children’s development.
