#WhyUNICEF: 4 voices. 4 perspectives. One purpose — for every child.
From ambassador to donor, each shares their story of why they stand with UNICEF.
For over 75 years, UNICEF has been there for children. Around the world, people trust UNICEF to deliver life-saving aid, education, and protection — always putting children first.
In this series, UNICEF Malaysia shares the voices of a National Ambassador, a staff member, a corporate partner, and a donor. Each of them explains why they trust UNICEF and why they choose to stand with us.
Together, their stories show the many ways people unite behind one mission: to protect and nurture every child.
And together, we are wira untuk kanak-kanak — champions for children — making a lasting difference in their lives.
Stay tuned as we share their stories, week by week, and discover the many reasons behind #WhyUNICEF.
Lisa Surihani, UNICEF National Ambassador
Every journey is shaped by different perspectives.
In this #WhyUNICEF series, Lisa Surihani shares her experiences and reflections — from what inspires her, to why she became a UNICEF National Ambassador, and why she believes every child deserves the chance to dream, grow, and be heard.
Because when we listen and share openly, we find new ways to stand together for children, everywhere.
Goh Liu Ying, UNICEF Malaysia Corporate Partner
“We believe sports build confidence, teamwork, and resilience in children.”
For former national badminton player and Kidslympic co-founder Goh Liu Ying, partnering with UNICEF is about turning passion into purpose. Through sports, she hopes to help children grow up healthy, active, and supported in both body and mind.
“By partnering with UNICEF, we connect our mission for children’s physical and mental well-being with UNICEF’s values and vision — giving every child the chance to thrive.”
Together, Kidslympic and UNICEF are creating opportunities for children to learn, play, and build confidence — one event, one community, one child at a time.
Yan, UNICEF Malaysia Staff Member
“Working with UNICEF means a lot to me. It’s more than just a job; it’s a mission close to my heart.”
For Yan, every day at UNICEF is a reminder of how powerful compassion and teamwork can be. From seeing a project come to life to witnessing the difference donors make, she finds hope in every act of giving.
“It’s inspiring to see how every contribution, big or small, becomes something life-changing for a child in need.”
Because to Yan, every ringgit carries hope — a chance for children to survive, learn, and dream again.
Sharvin Chandran, UNICEF Donor
“My own experience has given me a deeper sense of empathy and made me want to help others who are not so lucky.”
Caring for his bedridden mother taught Sharvin the true meaning of compassion. As a UNICEF donor, he now channels that same empathy into helping children who face hardship and uncertainty every day.
“Knowing my support makes a tangible difference in children’s lives makes me feel like I’m part of something bigger than myself.”
For Sharvin, giving isn’t about how much you have — it’s about how deeply you care.
Because when we give with compassion, we help children not only survive but dream again.
From ambassadors and staff to partners and donors, each voice in the #WhyUNICEF series reminds us that change begins with compassion.
Together, these stories show what it means to stand for every child — to give hope, to take action, and to believe in a brighter future.
This is why we are Wira untuk Kanak-kanak. 💙
