Government of Liberia and UNICEF Convene Joint End-Year End Review and Planning Meeting
Monrovia, 24 March 2026 – UNICEF Liberia and the Government of Liberia convened a Joint End-Year Review and Planning Meeting at the Boulevard Hotel in Sinkor, bringing together representatives from key ministries, county authorities, the National WASH Commission, development partners and young people to reflect on progress made in 2025 and agree on priorities for 2026–2027.
The meeting comes at an important time, as UNICEF begins implementation of its new Country Programme Document (2026–2030), aligned with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development. Discussions focused on how government and partners can work more effectively together to improve outcomes for children and adolescents through stronger coordination, evidence-based planning and greater investment in national systems.
Participants reviewed achievements across sectors including health, education, child protection, juvenile justice, WASH and youth development. The meeting also provided space for honest discussion on persistent challenges, including low domestic financing for social sectors, service delivery gaps, weak data systems and the need for stronger accountability.
Two flagship priorities emerged for 2026–2027: Back to My Classroom, aimed at bringing more children—especially out-of-school and overage learners—back into education, and Adolescent Girls Support, which focuses on expanding access to health, protection, WASH and learning opportunities for girls.
A strong call to action emerged from the meeting: move beyond business as usual and scale interventions that are already delivering results. Government leaders emphasized the importance of domestic resource mobilization, stronger governance and community engagement, while UNICEF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting nationally led, data-driven solutions that improve the lives of children and adolescents.
The participation of members of the Liberia Children’s Parliament and the Adolescent Girls’ Forum also underscored the importance of ensuring that young people are represented in decisions that affect their lives.
UNICEF remains committed to working with the Government of Liberia and partners to strengthen child-focused systems and ensure that every child and adolescent has the opportunity to survive, learn and thrive.
