In 2025, UNICEF’s Greener Lebanon project, funded by the Education Above All (EAA) Foundation and the Government of the Netherlands, advanced climate education across Lebanon while empowering youth to lead climate action, supporting locally driven initiatives with sustainable impact in all governorates.
Through a nationwide approach rooted in education and community engagement, the project trained 176 youth as Environmental and Climate Advocates, enabling them to lead climate education and local initiatives within their communities. As a result, 4,770 youth enhanced their climate knowledge through structured sessions focused on general climate change knowledge and the concepts of reduce, reuse, and recycle, delivered across 28 community learning spaces, including education and youth centers, schools and universities, which were activated as safe and inclusive environments for climate learning and action.
This momentum was translated into large-scale, youth-led action on the ground. A total of 15,425 youth volunteers participated in climate activities and initiatives across 286 locations nationwide, contributing to the revitalization of green and blue spaces, from coastlines to forests.
Their efforts resulted in the collection of 7,855 kilograms of solid waste and the planting of 2,492 trees, supporting biodiversity, reducing environmental pollution, and strengthening climate resilience.
By combining education and hands-on action, Greener Lebanon demonstrates how empowered youth can drive measurable environmental impact at both local and national levels.
