Newborn and Premature Babies
The first moments of the life of premature babies as they receive the care needed from both their parents and healthcare providers

Premature (Preterm) Babies are those who were born before 37 weeks of pregnancy. Premature Babies are prone to serious illness or death during the neonatal period (the 1st four weeks of life), due to impaired respiration, difficulty in feeding, poor body temperature regulation and high risk of infection.
Despite their early start, families and babies can thrive when they feel skin-to-skin contact and implement the Kangaroo mother care method.
Kangaroo Mother Care is the most powerful method parents can use in the hours, days and weeks to come, for their premature babies to adapt to life outside the womb and increase their survival rates.
Parent-infant closeness reduces mortality, infections, hospital readmissions and even supports the lactation process in breastfeeding women.

When babies are born prematurely, parents are not fully prepared for their arrival.
We are working with the Ministry of public Health to scale up newborn lifesaving interventions in Lebanon through proper health care for premature babies and assure parents that they’re not alone.
Have you heard of the octopus toys for premature babies?
Our new initiative with “Tahaddi” engages women in creating tiny bonnets and octopus' toys for premature babies. This helps women find new interests and develop their skills while supporting families in the most challenging moments of having their babies born prematurely.
Octopus toys comfort premature babies, and help improve a preemie's breathing, heartbeat and blood oxygen levels by mimicking the umbilical cord inside their mother’s womb and creating a sense of calm.
We honor and thank all the healthcare workers for their ongoing commitment especially in these challenging times, to help premature babies get the care they need during their first moments, and for their support and compassion with parents in their darkest hours.
