Highlights
Armed violence affecting children in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is a multidimensional challenge that undermines child rights, social cohesion, and longterm development. The region holds some of the world’s highest homicide rates, with children and adolescents disproportionately harmed as victims, witnesses, and participants in violent environments. Addressing this complexity requires not only responsive mechanisms once violence is present but also anticipatory strategies that identify risks early and strengthen protective conditions before armed violence enters and becomes entrenched in communities. This Programming Toolkit to Prevent and Respond to Armed Violence was created to meet that need. It consolidates global standards, regional evidence, and practical tools into a programmatic resource that helps practitioners, governments, and partners design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive, child centered, gender responsive interventions.
