Highlights
In Latin America and the Caribbean, childhood overweight has become a public health problem. In Peru, new estimates show that 8.6% of children under 5 years old, as well as 38.4% of children and adolescents between 6 and 13 years of age, have overweight.
UNICEF Peru, along with CENAN, the World Food Program, and the Pan American Health Organization have carried out a study that provides the full picture of childhood overweight in the country, including a thorough evaluation of preventative national policies, laws, and programs.
This study presents recommendations to decision makers, United Nations organizations, academia, and civil society, that call for the revision, design or improvement of national policies and strategies for the prevention of childhood overweight in Peru.
