Astana, 2 September 2025 – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan held the second meeting of its Advisory Council – a unique platform bringing together leaders from business, culture and media to explore innovative solutions for children.

This session welcomed five new members who are ready to contribute their expertise and resources to support the next generation. With their addition, the Council now comprises 15 members. It is chaired by the UNICEF Representative in Kazakhstan, with Mrs. Anar Rakhimbayeva serving as Co-Chair.

The new members are:

  • Almas Kudaybergen, Member of the Presidium of the Association of Oil Service Companies of Kazakhstan “KazService”
  • Maira Mukhamedkyzy, Director of Shymkent Opera and Ballet Theatre
  • Laila Sultankyzy, Media Producer and Public Figure
  • Dinara Shukizhanova, President of AgromashHolding KZ JSC
  • Julia Engelmann, Entrepreneur

Established in June 2025, the Advisory Council is part of UNICEF’s global initiative to engage business in advancing children’s rights and well-being. It is inspired by the model of the UNICEF International Council, which brings together more than 160 influential UNICEF partners across 22 countries.

“We are delighted to welcome the new members of the Council. Their leadership in business, culture and media will expand our opportunities to advance UNICEF programmes – from early childhood development and education to child protection and family support. Together, we can build an environment where every child in Kazakhstan has equal opportunities for a successful future,” said Dr. Rashed Mustafa Sarwar, UNICEF Representative in Kazakhstan.

The meeting in Almaty provided a forum to discuss UNICEF’s priorities for 2026–2030, including:

  • access to quality education and early childhood development;
  • child rights protection and family-centred practices;
  • equal access to digital opportunities and a safe online environment;
  • climate resilience and child health.

Special attention was also given to preparations for the UNICEF Gala Dinner “Dreams Without Borders”, which will take place in Almaty for the first time on 28 November, as well as to new initiatives – including the Child-Friendly Airport project and expanding the role of UNICEF volunteers in driving social change.

The Advisory Council will meet at least three times a year. Its members will act not only as experts but also as drivers of change, reinforcing the role of business and media in advancing children’s rights.
