Innovative Solutions to Bridge the Digital Divide

Supporting the most vulnerable youth with digital skills for the 21st century

Highlights

  1. Jordan is on the cusp of major growth within the digital economy, which presents a huge opportunity for young people. The Information and Communication Technology Sector currently accounts for 12% of Jordan’s GDP. However, the most vulnerable young people – young women, out of school youth, and young refugees – lack the digital literacy skills necessary to tap into the potential of this sector.
  2. As part of UNICEF’s strategic direction to equip young people, especially young girls, with skills for the 21st century, Jordan Country Office launched a programme to enhance the digital literacy skills of the most vulnerable young people in Madaba, Tafileh, Irbid, Zarqa, and Amman.
  3. The decentralized and transparent nature of this platform are key in strengthening the social contract between the young population of focus and private and public sector stakeholders involved in the programme.
  4. The platform represents both a short-term economic intervention and a preventive digital public good investment in harnessing digitalization as a vehicle to achieve sustainable development in Jordan.
