German Development Cooperation (BMZ/KfW)
Working together for children and youth in Jordan

Since 2013, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the KfW Development Bank have shown an unwavering commitment to vulnerable children in Jordan, helping UNICEF to reach tens of thousands of children every year with critical education, social protection, and youth and adolescent services.
BMZ/KfW-funded Makani (‘My Space’ in Arabic) centres in Za’atari Refugee Camp, Azraq Refugee Camp and host communities across Jordan are providing vulnerable Syrian and Jordanian children with a safe space to learn, play, develop new skills and reach their full potential. Makani centres also provide community-based child protection services and support parents through Early Childhood Development and positive parenting programmes.
Thanks to BMZ/KfW’s support, Syrian refugees are given opportunities to improve their livelihoods and support their families through incentive-based volunteering opportunities, including as support staff to teachers in Ministry of Education schools, as well as managing the day-to-day functions in Makani centres.
BMZ/KfW also plays a key role in UNICEF’s technical support to the Government of Jordan’s National Aid Fund to help families in Jordan break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.
Together, UNICEF Jordan and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the KfW Development Bank are helping the most vulnerable children in Jordan to thrive.
