Supporting Children and Families During the 2026 Conflict in Iran
An overview of UNICEF-supported health, WASH and child protection services for children and families in affected provinces

The 2026 conflict in Iran has placed children and families at heightened risk, disrupting access to health care, safe water, sanitation, protection and psychosocial support. UNICEF has called for the protection of children and civilians, as well as schools, hospitals and other essential civilian infrastructure.
Working with national and local authorities, UNICEF is supporting the Government’s response in affected provinces. The assistance presented in these infographics includes essential health services for more than 2.1 million people; safe water, sanitation and hygiene support reaching more than 1 million children and parents; and protection and mental health services for 12,467 children.
UNICEF’s support also includes vaccine delivery and cold-chain services, emergency health facilities, hygiene supplies, community-based psychosocial services and assistance for children without effective caregivers.
UNICEF continues to call for the protection of every child and for sustained, safe and uninterrupted access to essential services.
Health
UNICEF is supporting the Government’s emergency health response to help children and families access essential care in affected provinces. Support includes mobile health units, health tents, emergency kits, more than 2 million vaccine doses and cold-chain services. Together, these interventions have helped expand access to health services for more than 2.1 million people.
Child Protection, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support
UNICEF is supporting the expansion of child protection, mental health and psychosocial services for children and caregivers affected by the conflict. The response includes group counselling, stress-management guidance, community-based support and crisis-preparedness information. It also provides learning and well-being support, alongside basic assistance for children without effective caregivers across affected areas.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
UNICEF is supporting the Government’s response to provide children and families in affected areas with safer water, sanitation and hygiene services. Assistance includes water-purification tablets, water tankers, water quality testing kits, healthcare waste-management support and hygiene supplies tailored to households, women, infants and persons with disabilities. These interventions have reached more than one million children and parents.
