UNICEF Iran Representative, Ms Mandeep O’Brien in a video message addressed the opening of the first Summer School on Child Rights organized by the National Body on the Convention on the Rights of the Child under the Ministry of Justice on Tuesday 3rd September.
Ms O’Brien acknowledged a number of achievements and results for children by the government of the Islamic republic of Iran at the 30th anniversary of the CRC and said:” In simple terms applying the principles of the CRC in practice means giving equal opportunity to all children, girls and boys, for their health and well-being, their nutrition, their schooling, their protection and promoting the best interests of the child in all decisions affecting their lives. “
The NBCRC was established under the Ministry of Justice in January 2010 with a special mandate to monitor implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Iran. Since then, UNICEF has successfully partnered with the NBCRC on a number of programmes for children such as technical support for submission of Iran’s periodic report to the Committee on the CRC. The two sides are exploring new areas of partnership for children soon.
