Highlights
January
- In 2025, UNICEF will continue to respond to the humanitarian needs of women and children across Haiti impacted by a multitude of emergencies, including but not limited to addressing malnutrition, armed violence, cholera and flooding. In Haiti, two in three children are estimated to need humanitarian assistance this year.
- In January, UNICEF Haiti continued to use its comparative advantage to foster an impactful emergency response, through multi-sectoral approaches that support the survival of children, their families and communities, with a focus on violence-affected departments of the West and Artibonite. During the reporting period, more than 18,600 children were reached with humanitarian assistance.
- With regard to the 2025 Humanitarian Action for Children (HAC) appeal, US$26.3 million is available for humanitarian interventions. However, a funding gap of 90 per cent remains, leaving many vulnerable women and children without critical lifesaving assistance.
February
- February 2025 was marked by recurring displacement and growing insecurity, as more than 24,000 people were displaced in Port-au-Prince and Artibonite over the course of two weeks due to escalating violence. In addition, clashes between armed groups and the Haitian National Police resulted in the fi rst casualty of the Multinational Security Support mission (MSS).
- The suspension of US humanitarian funds resulted in reduction of UNICEF’s humanitarian budget in Haiti, putting the life-saving services of children and their families at risk. Nevertheless, UNICEF continued to deliver essential services, including through education access and nutrition, with more than 32,000 children reached during the reporting period.
- From the 2025 Humanitarian Action for Children (HAC) appeal, US$21.2 million is currently available for humanitarian interventions. However, a funding gap of 92 per cent remains, leaving many vulnerable children and their families without critical lifesaving assistance.
March
- March 2025 was marked by further escalations in armed group violence, resulting in further displacements in Port-au-Prince and signficant new displacements in the Centre department. In addition, clashes between armed groups and the Haitian National Police (HNP) led to another casualty of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM).
- Amidst the deteriorating security situation, there have been increased alerts of suspected cholera cases - with seven confirmed cases reported in West and Centre departments.
- In response to the various crises, UNICEF continues to deliver critical life-saving services ranging from Nutrition to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) services, with more than 67,153 children reached1. From the 2025 Humanitarian Action for Children appeal, US$23.1million is currently available for humanitarian interventions. However, a funding gap of 92 per cent remains, leaving many vulnerable children and their families without critical lifesaving assistance.
