Port-au-Prince, 23 September 2025 – “UNICEF is deeply shocked and concerned by the killing of ten children in ten days in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.

“According to reports, at least six children and several adults were killed on Saturday evening alone during a drone strike in the Simon Pelé neighborhood.

“Among the victims was a four-year-old girl who lost her life while playing outside her home. Many others, including children, were injured.

“Just days earlier, on 11 September, four children were also killed in an attack by armed groups while they were inside their home, a place that should have been safe and protective.

“For far too long, children in Haiti have been caught in relentless cycles of violence. These incidents have once again torn families apart and shattered any sense of safety for children who should simply be able to learn, play, and grow in peace.

“International law clearly states that children, as well as the essential services they rely on, must be protected. Every effort must be made to prevent and avoid harm to the population, especially children.

“UNICEF calls for urgent action to ensure the protection of children and the respect of their fundamental rights.

“Every child in Haiti has the right to safety, dignity, and protection. UNICEF stands with the children of Haiti and will continue working with its partners to ensure their rights are upheld and safeguarded at all times.”
