Evidence Overview of LEAP and LEAP 1000 impacts 2010-20221
Highlights
The Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) Cash Transfer Programme is implemented by the LEAP Management Secretariat under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection. The Programme was launched in 2008 and reached 1654 extremely poor households with the following eligibility criteria- orphan and vulnerable children, the elderly 65 and above without any support and persons living with disability without any productive capacity. In 2015, the programme was expanded to eligible pregnant women and mothers with infants below one year. As of May 2024, LEAP reached approximately 360,000 households across Ghana. Beneficiary households are entitled to bi-monthly cash transfer and a premium fee waiver for enrolment into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
