2021 Budget Briefs
Advocating for allocation of resources to improve the lives of children
Highlights
One of UNICEF Ghana’s aims is to advocate for the availability of resources that are necessary to respond to the economic, social and cultural rights and the well-being of children. UNICEF Ghana, together with the Government of Ghana, produces budget briefs on an annual basis to explore the extent to which the national budget addresses children’s needs.
The budget briefs analyse the size and composition of budget allocations to sectors that matter the most for children. In 2021, UNICEF Ghana produced budget briefs for the education, health, social protection, WASH, child protection and nutrition sectors. These analyses examine the current fiscal year, as well as offering insights into the efficiency, equity and adequacy of past spending.
The main objectives of the budget briefs include synthesizing complex budget information so that it is easily understood by different stakeholders, putting forward key messages and recommendations to influence public financial decision-making processes, and leveraging domestic resources for children.
