A day by the children and for the children

TV presenter, Humanitarian and Designer Gwen Madiba has been appointed UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Gabon. This new role demonstrates that she will continue to collaborate with the organization and recognizes her ability to mobilize partners worldwide to support Gabon's children.

The announcement was made today at the Baie des Rois as part of the celebration of Universal Children's Day in Gabon. The celebration was attended by a hundred children and the UNICEF Representative. Yesterday, Gwen met with the Gabonese private sector actors and the media to talk about her commitment to children.

Madiba is UNICEF Gabon's first Goodwill Ambassador. Through her diverse professional background, humanitarian commitment and immense popularity on social media, she is committed to contributing to the promotion of children's rights and to actively supporting UNICEF's campaigns in Gabon.

For UNICEF Representative Noel Zagre, Gwen’s appointment as the new Ambassador makes perfect sense: "Gwen Madiba's commitment to the country's children and youth is not new. She is a person who has always fought for better education and better protection against violence for Gabonese children. A very good communicator, and she will be able to convey a message of hope that will touch hearts.

"It’s such an honour for me to continue working with the children of the country in which was born! I’m especially proud to be working alongside the dedicated UNICEF GABON team, who are already doing a very important job. I will honour this new responsibility",  she explains.

The influencer will use her popularity and extensive celebrity network and social media following to connect with young people and empower them to speak out about the issues they face.

Madiba recently established the Equal Chance Foundation and is also the co-founder of the Global Black Coalition, which is helping vulnerable minorities fleeing the war in Ukraine this year.

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors are public figures from the arts, science, literature, or sport, who show that they are committed to children’s rights.  These personalities support the organization by relaying, within the framework of their activities, the messages, actions, and priorities of UNICEF.
