Children’s run for a better future
Promoting nutrition and an active lifestyle
On November 16, UNICEF partnered with the Great Ethiopian Run to organize a children’s run to create awareness on proper nutrition. The run encourages children to be physically active while having fun and connecting with their families. Children who participated in the run shared some of their eating and exercise habits.
“I wake up at 5 am and change my clothes. I exercise, take a shower, and eat breakfast. I like to drink juice in the morning and eat meat and eggs. Children must eat well so they build strong muscles. I came here today to run and win. This kind of activity is good for children. It will help them to connect with other children and be active.”
Mehila Dereje, 11
“I like playing football and running. I want to be a football player when I grow up. I like eating meat and lentils. Children should eat well and exercise to be healthy. I exercise with my mom at home.”

“I like to jump rope and trampoline. I like eating rice with meat and chips. I want to tell children to eat nutritious food, especially vegetables. It will make them strong. When I grow up, I want to be a scientist, so I eat well, exercise, and study hard.”

“I like eating meat with injera. I get iodine from injera and protein from meat. I believe children should eat well to get strong and healthy. I want to be an entrepreneur, but I know I must not only study hard but also stay healthy to reach my goals. I wish all children to be healthy so they can achieve their dreams.”
