UNICEF Statement on the Death of Dr. Bogaletch Gebre

We, at UNICEF Ethiopia, are deeply saddened by the sudden death of Dr. Bogaletch Gebre whom we worked with for over a decade on ending female genital mutilation. We will miss her deep personal commitment and dedication to this important cause. Her approach to addressing such a deep-rooted harmful practice through community conversations and social mobilization has stood the test of time and has been scaled up by many organizations including UNICEF. Our deepest condolences go to the bereaved family, relatives and friends. May they find comfort during this difficult time.
